The project involved the reconfiguration and remodelling of an existing detached house to expand and improve the internal layout, take advantage of natural light, and enhance open views across the neighbouring nature reserve to the sea.
The property is a two-storey main house and a separate detached, single-storey, timber-clad annex located on a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in Winchelsea, East Sussex.
The first floor was replaced to provide extra sleeping accommodation and improved views towards the sea. The ground floor layout boasts a large open-plan kitchen, living and dining space, with a staircase that runs up and around the central brick chimney. There is a library snug with a balcony on the first floor, offering views of the sea, along with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
There is also a detached single-storey annex studio with a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. The materials have been carefully selected to weather in the very harsh and wild natural environment.
The house was also a British Homes Awards finalist, recognised for its exceptional design and craftsmanship.
The property benefits from roof lights, providing natural light into the kitchen.
A green roof was installed, with hardy plants that will survive in a coastal location.
In 2025, Myriad was asked to further enhance this property by creating a single-storey rear extension, with a glazed link from the main house to the studio and updating some of the interior and exterior of the main house.
